Lightroom Class: PNG to TIF with Image Converter Plus

Before you do anything further in this class, make sure you have completed a full and complete backup of all your digital scrapbooking supplies.

Another option for Windows users is the simple file converter Image Converter Plus.  I have heard mixed reviews on this software, but in my limited testing with my class catalog, I found it to be a very workable resource.

In fact, with the experience I had in testing, if PSE were my only option and I didn’t want to download a trial of Bridge, I would use Image Converter Plus to convert my catalog of digital supplies.  ICP does a great job with preserving transparency, file size and speed of conversion.

However, that said, Image Converter Plus can be tricky.   Keep in mind I only converted my class catalog on a Windows machine.  For that reason, I recommend downloading a free trial and converting a group of your files over to test it for your system just to make sure.  Also if you choose this route I would not convert 1 file before knowing I had all my digital supplies backed up to an external drive and disconnected from my computer.  This way if you have any issues, you will be able to go back to where you started before converting files.

If you choose ICP, here are a few screenshots of the settings I used to get the most successful conversion (click on the image to see it full-size):

Summary of Settings

• Convert to TIFF format.
• 32 for color depth
• NONE for compression
• Save file “AS IS” for multipage option
• Save file with Multistrip
• Check boxes next to Save EXIF and Save IPTC
• Save to Folder {Source path} – this keeps your files in the same kit folder
• File name {Title}.{Type}  this keeps your filename the same with the new file type extension.

Keep in mind I cannot answer extensive questions on this software as I don’t have the depth of experience or time to gain that depth in this free class.

I just wanted to share another option for those of you with only PSE on your machines.
