Digital Workflow and Lightroom
By kaylal on in Photo Flow with No Comments
I have had so many questions about why I use Lightroom in my workflow. I also get questions about which is better, Lightroom or Bridge.
One of the things I love about my workflow is that all of my Adobe programs work together. Trying to represent that visually is somewhat challenging. So imagine my surprise when I saw slides last week on Julianne Kost’s blog that explain it…
And just a few illustrations of workflow in Lightroom…
Adding Photoshop/Elements to the mix…
The best part about Lightroom? When I make enhancements in Photoshop, Lightroom tracks the changes when I save the file – it doesn’t get better than that!
Except when it comes to output. Once everything is tracked in Lightroom (it happens seamlessly without adding steps to my workflow), I have several options for output – and they are all easy to do. No more creating several versions and saving them for different things in different folders – i.e. blog, Flickr, etc. I do it all from within Lightroom!
Again, props and thanks to Julianne for sharing these slides.

Kayla, I have so enjoyed your Lightroom tutorials. I was a PC ACDSee CS2 user and switched to Mac CS5 and Lightroom 3. Your tutorials have made it a smoother adjustment. Thanks-I appreciate your willingness to share your knowledge.
I have one problem-when I use the “Edit in-Open as Layers” from LR to PS the png files I changed to psd open in the layers with a white background. If I use the “Edit in–Edit in PS CS5″ option they open as they should with the clear background but in the multiple files-which takes more steps to bring them into my layout file. Is there a setting I have wrong or is this just how it is with LR & PS?
Thanks
Larell
Great point! The open in layers option doesn’t preserve the transparency. Quite honestly, I don’t think Adobe was thinking of PNG files when they created Lightroom – we are a bit on the bleeding edge there!
Hopefully things will change in the future.
Thanks for your comment.
Using Adobe products together is important. Using them together works really well too. This post really helps to explain it all very well. Thanks.
You are welcome.
